Audrey Perlman Raphael joined Levy Konigsberg in 1990 and is now one of the firm’s partners specializing in litigation representing victims of asbestos. She manages the asbestos bankruptcy trust department and every year wins multiple settlements worth millions from firms exposing their employees or consumers to asbestos.
Audrey was one of the early leaders in litigating for victims of asbestos exposure. She was the first to file cases against cosmetic talc manufacturers who included asbestos in their products. She also spearheaded the cases of victims of asbestos from automotive friction products, cigarette filters, pizza ovens, residential boilers and welding rods. Thanks to Audrey’s efforts, they are now widely accepted as asbestos-containing products.
To this day, she continues leading the process of discovering new sources of asbestos exposure. In particularly, she focuses on asbestos exposure outside the workplace, such as during home renovation, through unsafe household products or work clothes or tools that bring asbestos home from the workplace. She is also one of the leading representatives for women who are exposed to asbestos despite not working with it themselves.
On top of her work with asbestos victims, Audrey has also litigated cases of victims of automobile, construction and household equipment accidents as well as those injured by diethylstilbestrol. She is also an expert in uncovering assets that are hidden away or contained in insurance policies to avoid paying compensation and penalties to victims. In 1993, she won a landmark automobile accident case where the United States Bankruptcy Court ruled that bankruptcy laws couldn’t protect the perpetrators of intentional torts from their liabilities.
Audrey graduated from University at Buffalo, The State University of New York as a Phi Beta Kappa and went on to New York University to earn a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Fordham Law School. While at Fordham, she was a part of the Fordham Urban Law Journal as well as interning with the Special Narcotics Department at the New York County District Attorney’s Office.
Audrey has been featured in The Best Lawyers in America for Mass Tort Litigation and holds a spot on the National Trial Lawyer’s Top 100 Trial Lawyers list.
