History- The Peritoneal Neoplastic Disease Program in Omaha was started in 2002 by Dr. Brian Loggie. The program treats individuals that have rare diseases such as peritoneal mesothelioma, cutaneous malignant melanoma, peritoneal carcinomatous and malignant ascites, abdominopelvic and retroperitoneal sarcomas, pseudomyxoma peritonei, and management of complex primary, recurrent solid tumors and appendix neoplasms. They also treat more common diseases such as colon and ovarian cancer.
Director– Dr. Brian W. Loggie MD – Chief in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Director of the Cancer Care Center at Creighton University Medical Center. He is a national and international expert on peritoneal mesothelioma.
Team- Holly Sennett APRN NP
Resources– Nurse Navigator Program- oncology- certified nurse who is available 24 hours a day to guide a patient through the entire process of diagnosis and treatment at the CHI Health Cancer Care Center. Nurse Navigators help the patient and family members understand the plan of care and the disease.
Support Groups– held monthly for patients and families
CHI Health Cancer Support Team– group of healthcare providers that work together to help the patient and family cope with cancer. The team offers support and education about treatment, communication between the support team, doctor, patient and family. Links for patients to community resources and programs. The team includes social services, care management, nutrition counseling, pastoral services, mental health services, nurse navigators, rehabilitation services, palliative care services, hospice and home care services.
Lodging– Currently the American Cancer Society is constructing a Hope Lodge in Omaha – construction started in September 2016.
